Mission Statement
To teach and promote Alfred Adler’s psychology of mutual respect in human relationships.
The Saskatoon Adlerian Society (SAS)
- Organizes educational opportunities that offer positive and effective approaches to parenting, teaching, counselling, social and business relationships
- Features parent education with the goal of raising respectful, responsible children
- A registered charitable organization directed by a volunteer board
- Incorporated in 1976
The Basics of SAS Teachings
- Teachings are based on the work of Dr. Alfred Adler, Dr. Rudolf Dreikurs, and many others who followed them
- Teachings focus on practical approaches that promote mutual respect, encouragement, belonging, and cooperation
Principles of Adlerian Psychology
- All people are equally deserving of dignity and respect
- People want to belong and to contribute
- Encouragement builds on strengths and invites cooperation
- Understanding children’s behavior helps us to become better parents
- Improving communication strengthens relationships
- Developing responsible behavior is our goal
What does SAS do?
- Offers Nurturing With Rhymes: The Parent ♥ Child Program
- Trains parenting group facilitators – Psychology for Today
- Maintains a list of trained facilitators/presenters
- Once a year organizes A Day for Parents, a full day of workshops
- Publishes four Newsletters annually which feature parenting information, book reviews, a question and answer column, and news about upcoming events
- Maintains a lending library of books and videos at the offices of the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association
- Publishes a comprehensive facilitator’s guide titled Respectful Responsible Parenting (Rev. Ed) 2007
